SA Power Networks Internship

During the 2019 Christmas Holidays I was lucky enough to undertake a three-week paid internship with SA Power Networks. My future career aspiration is structural engineering and in these three short weeks I learnt many skills that I am sure will be useful in this career path. The most valuable was probably developing my understanding through CAD 3D modelling software which I used to complete a range of modelling tasks. This included predesigned footings and substation busbars, all to be used in current or future construction. While there, I also visited a number of company sites including the Network Innovation Centre, Network Control Centre and the SA Power Networks Museum.

Multiple engineers also gave presentations about their specific work. One that was particularly informative was by a structural engineer where advice was given about university courses, school grades and subjects, recommended Universities, and typical working day of this profession.

I feel privileged to have been given this amazing opportunity and am eager to use the skills I learnt. Engineering is definitely the pathway I want to follow, and this internship has both cemented and supported my ambition.
