Mobile phone ban letter from our Principal to parents / caregivers
19 June 2023
Dear parents/caregivers
Re: Mobile Phone Ban
I am writing to remind families that the mobile phone ban for secondary schools comes into effect at Playford International College on day one of term 3, 2023. The Playford International College mobile phone and personal devices policy can be located at:
https://playford.sa.edu.au/our-college/school-policies/
As a result of consultation with our staff, students and community over the last term and a half, the preferred storage of phones and devices was identified as:
Mobile phones and other personal devices are to be left in the student’s bag for the duration of the school day on silent.
Therefore, as of day one of term 3, all students will be required to keep their mobile phone and other personal devices in their bag, turned off or on flight mode. This applies for the entire school day as per the Department for Education policy located at
https://www.education.sa.gov.au/mobile-phones
There are clear consequences of non-compliance with the school’s policy. These are outlined in the school’s policy on pages 2 to 3.
There is provision for exemptions to this requirement. A student will need to meet strict criteria with supporting evidence to be exempt from the requirement to not access their phone during the school day. Information about exemptions is available in the school’s policy on pages 3 and 4. Exemptions must be requested via the Wellbeing, EALD or IESP Teams.
If you have any questions regarding the Playford International College mobile phone and personal devices policy, please contact Karen Clark for year 7 and 8 students, Tracy Moore for year 9 and 10 students and Leanne Polkinghorne for Year 11 and 12 students on 8255 7566, or via email at dl.0910.info@schools.sa.edu.au
Yours sincerely,
Karen Bond
Principal
