The Vocal Ensemble has proudly and outstandingly represented Playford International College in a number of high profile performances over the past few weeks. They once again performed at the Playford City Council Anzac Day Dawn Service and Overnight Vigil. Performances were held during the school holidays and I thank music students and their teachers, Ms Seager and Mr Birch for their hard work, commitment and contribution to these important community events.
A group of instrumental and vocal students also performed at the DECD Induction Expo held during the holidays at the Adelaide Convention Centre. Congratulations to Matthew Snelling (sax), Mathew Allen (classical Guitar), Emille Collins (clarinet), Peter Moore (sax) and Amber Rogers (vocals) for entertaining the lunchtime crowd with an exciting selection of music.
A highlight for the Vocal Ensemble was their participation in the national Generations In Jazz music event held in Mount Gambier. A report about this exciting event follows. I’d like to congratulate students for their outstanding conduct throughout the trip and their energy and commitment in preparing for the Vocal Awards performance. Again, a huge thank you is extended to Vocal Ensemble Director, Ms Seager and accompanist Mr Birch.
On Friday 6 May the Classical Guitar Ensemble (Sharni Carter, Kalib Thomas, Zane Weetra, Mat Allen) along with soloists Tiana Marius, Matthew Snelling, Mathew Allen and Peter Moore performed at the Anglicare Mother’s Day event at the Elizabeth Vale Soccer Club. Everyone had a great time, with those attending commenting positively about our musicians’ performances.
Once again we were fortunate to have renown Australian Jazz musicians John Morrison and Jacki Cooper work with our Stage Band, rhythm section, Vocal Ensemble and selected vocal students on Thursday May 12. Students were inspired by their musical demonstrations and expert advice offered throughout the workshops. The Stage Band worked towards perfecting their technique for the Big Band Blast which was held in Port Macquarie, NSW at the end of May. More about this event will feature in the next newsletter.
The Year 12 Recital Night was held on Wednesday May 18. Students confidently performed their Solo Performance and Performance Special Study repertoire for their first summative Assessment Task to a large appreciative audience. The overall standard of performance was outstanding and students are to be congratulated on their exceptional preparation for the recital.
Auditions for assisting artists at the SA Primary Schools Festival of Music will be held at the Music Centre on Wednesday June 8. We have 4 ensembles and 6 soloist/duets auditioning from the SIMC, as well as the Primary Music Hub Orchestra and Concert Band. Best wishes to all students who are auditioning.
Congratulations to all musicians involved in these performances and a huge thankyou to the Playford International College, HPI and IM music staff for their wonderful work.
