End of 2021 message from our Principal
7 December 2021
Dear parents and caregivers,
The 2021 school year draws to a close on Friday 10th December. The final school day of the year will conclude at 1:10pm.
2021 has certainly been a busy year with many events, performances and excursions. Thank you to the many staff involved in organising, running and supervising these events. Our Awards Ceremony was held on Wednesday 17 November. It was wonderful to see the high achievement and growth of so many of our students. Congratulations to all award recipients.
Last week we hosted over 560 year 6 and 7 students who will be joining us as year 7 and 8 students in 2022. We are excited that so many students and their families have made Playford International College their school of choice. We are looking forward to welcoming Year 7 students and their families for the first time to the college in 2022.
Our capital works program is well underway with the new Hospitality Function Centre completed and the refurbished N building very close to completion. The old transportable buildings will be removed in early January. The new Technical Studies space will be completed in early term 1 2022. We are excited that the majority of the new facilities will be available on day one of the 2022 school year.
Earlier this term, I informed you of several changes for 2022. These include the following:
- The school day will commence at 8:50am with a morning care group and conclude at 3:15pm except for Wednesdays, when the day will conclude at 2:25pm.
- The re-introduction of care groups has been informed by student need, particularly younger students. This time supports students learning each day and for the development of a quality relationship with their care group teacher. An additional lesson each week will also be devoted to our care group program.
- The Wednesday early finish supports staff to engage in extended meeting times and professional development opportunities each week.
- Year 7, 8 and 12 students will commence on Monday 31st January enabling the school to support our 600 new students and the 2022 year 12 students settle into the new school year.
- Year 9, 10 and 11 students will commence on Tuesday 1st February. This will be the first day with 1600 students on site.A reminder to our senior secondary students and their families; SACE results will be released on Monday 13th December. Students should be able to access their results via the Students Online Portal from 8:30am. Members of the school’s leadership team will be on site from 9:00am if you have any questions regarding your child’s results.
Term 4 reports for year 8 to 11 students will be available to parents and carers via Canvas. To our Year 8 to 11 students, your end of year report reflects both your achievement and effort for 2021. I encourage you to reflect on these and consider what goals you could set yourself in 2022 in relation to your learning.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff, students, families and community members for making me feel welcome in my first year as the Principal of Playford International College. I would particularly like to thank the Governing Council for their support throughout 2021.
Lastly, I wish everyone a joyous festive season and a safe and happy summer break.
