2019 Sports Day

Going into Sports Day, only Gillespie and Mitchell Houses had ever been crowned Sports Day champions, and with Gillespie reigning champions, it was set to be an exciting day of athletics on the school oval. Playford held its Sports Day on Friday 29th of March, and for the first time in memory, the weather was not going to be perfect. It was windy and cool, with a few drops of rain, but the school gathered in their houses on the school oval ready to go. The day got off to a great start with the 100m heats finding the fastest runners in the school, while the novelty events kept everybody entertained as they took part in the Tug of War and Water Carry Relay among other activities. The music department did an excellent job of entertaining everyone through playing music across the day and some students from the Student Representative Council helped a number of the teachers run the BBQ. A highlight of the morning was the new Foot Dart activity which was a giant, inflatable dart board that you could kick soccer balls and footballs at, while the face painting stand was as popular as ever.

There was a lot of excellent competition throughout the day in all events which resulted in 12 records being broken across the day, with these being:

Year 8 Boys Long Jump, Saxon (Barnes), 4.20m

Year 9 Boys 200m, Lachlan (Barnes), 27.42 secs

Year 9 Boys Long Jump, Lachlan (Barnes), 4.70m

Year 9 Boys Javelin, Boaz (Gillespie), 27.30m

Year 9 Girls 200m, Hallie (Freeman), 33.56 secs

Year 9 Girls High Jump, Hallie (Freeman), 1.30m

Year 10 Boys Long Jump, Brandan (Tao), 5.00m

Year 10 Boys Discus, Craig (Barnes), 34.64m

Year 10 Girls Discus, Emeline (Mitchell), 16.73

Open Boys Javelin, Jakob (Gillard), 36.62m

Open Boys Shot Put, Adam (Tao), 11.15m

The final event for the day was run for the first time and that was the Playford Gift, which pitted the winners of all the 100m finals against each other in a handicapped start. It was a close finish, with Jacline winning by less than half a metre over Dieudonne who started from the scratch mark. Finishing off the day, Mitchell House were crowned champions for the fourth time with 630 points, edging out Gillespie House who came a close second on 607 points. Congratulations to the following students who were crowned age group champions:
